Where can I buy good rugby or soccer cleats for not too expensive?

I wanna play rugby and so far the cheapest rugby cleats I’ve found are $50. and I can’t really spend that cause I spent alot on other equipment yesterday. Also I said soccer cause your allowed to have soccer cleats too.

Depends on what size you wear, (especially if you’re looking for women’s boots) but I’d check out the sale section at WorldRugbyShop.com.

What have been some of the changes to rugby union in the last 20 years?

Such as rules, equipment, clothing, tactics, trainings and sport science related changes

1. Professionalism in 1996. For about ten years rugby’s administrators were totally reluctant to allow the game to go professional, had they not done so the game would be dead. Nowadays money runs eveything in the game and their is a market for full-time professional players.

2. South Africa’s 1995 world cup victory. One of the most significant moments in modern sports as Nelson Madela used the national rugby team to reinstill pride and patriotism back into the nation, capped off with an upset extra time victory in the final and the moment after the game when the white and coloured players bound together in prayer

3. Expansion of northern/southern hemisphere provincial competitions. The international calendar hasn’t really changed but the Guiness premiership and the other northern leagues have become very global while the super 14 continues to grow and develop a culture distinct from the north

4. ELV’s. Even though many of them are being eradicated thanks to England, it still addressed many of the issues brought to light by no.5 and gave us a look at how good and in some cases how bad the game can be

5. Clive Woodward’s England. For better or worse changed the way the game is played by playing the percentages, focussing on ball retention, set piece strength and taking 3 points whenever it was on offer.

6. Rod Macqueen’s Wallabies. Precursor to Woodward, first team to conduct itself in a strictly professional manner as Macqueen ran the team like a business.

7. Jonah Lomu – First global superstar of rugby, has to be included, put the game on the map

I want to play u13 rugby and be in the athletics team I weigh 46kg, run 100m in 14.00 seconds and I am 13 years old Please may someone help me and by the way I live in a boarding house and I only have ankle weights and have no access to gym equipment

First of all you need to improve your speed….doing several short sprints(ranging from 30m to 60m) with 5 mins recovery in between……these should be “all out” explosive efforts. you can also increase your endurance by doing a longer sprint(e.g 100m) and then decelerate turn around and sprint 60m.

This can be repeated 3 or 4 times with long recovery……also technique cant not be ignored….make sure you use your arms properly..have high knee lifts and the least possible tension in the shoulders…core work such as the plank, sit ups and press ups are also important….you wont need weights at u13

I began playing rugby last year and at the end of our amazing season I tore my acl and 2 parts of my meniscus. I had the re constructive surgery done about 4 months ago, but it was all done through a scope so the recovery has been faster than expected. I’m slowly making my way back on the pitch but need a good knee brace that I can PLAY in.

I know rugby restrictions are really tight when it comes to protective equipment so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great!!

I found this brace http://www.footlocker.com/catalog/productdetail.cfm?model_nbr=68554&sku=1541180&SID=8732&inceptor=1&cm_mmc=SEO-_-Feeds-_-Froogle-_-null on most rugby websites, but I’m not sure of the rules regarding plastic or metal in the brace. Again, any help is welcome and if you know of a good brace that I would be able to PLAY in, let me know!!

Thanks! -an eager to play rugger 🙂

If you have a copy of the laws this comes under Law #4 of the game. Basically any supplemental protective/supportive gear must be: – made of elasticated and compressible material – Washable – IRB approved (look for the IRB tag)

Support gear cannot be: – Contaminated with blood – Sharp or abrasive – Contain; buckles, clips, rings, hinges, zippers, screws, bolts, rigid material or projections, not otherwise permitted under the law I’d say that unless that brace has an IRB label in it, under the laws of the game, it is illegal (due to the fact that it is a rigid brace containing steel). Refs will check any knee braces that are not made solely of thin flexible material. However w/ an ACL injury of that extent those types of support may not help to the degree that you need.

Your best bet would be to have a ref actually look at the brace, or get an IRB verdict on it. Outside of actually knowing what it feels like and how stiff it is, that the best advice I’ve got. Hope you find something that helps and get back on the pitch soon!

Hey this is for somthing important plz help

If you are just playing socially with a bunch of mates you can get away with just a rugby ball, a field and a mouth guard, is all you really need. That’s all we had when we played rugby as 10 y.o’s. Don’t listen to the idiots that say you don’t need a mouth guard, for a couple of pounds its a lot cheaper to buy a mouth-guard than to have reconstructive dentistry!

If your serious about playing rugby then you will need to join a club, they will sort you out with anything you need, and probably have a discount deal going on with some local sports shop. If you are playing at club level then boots will also be a must. You don’t need padding (unless you are South African, they are all a bunch of woosies) but you will need to purchase a team shirt.

Don’t go buying some cheap brand, get a CCC (Canterbury Clothing Company) rugby shirt if you can, they are the best (been making them for many many years). If you are playing in a forward position then its a good idea to wear headgear, as they take the most knocks to the head. Also don’t play front row forward (number 1,2,3) unless you have been given some training.  You CAN break your neck if you go into a scrum incorrectly, so not a good idea to play there unless you know what your doing!

Also watch some games on TV and learn the rules, they are complicated (a lot more so than learning grid iron or soccer).

Love Rugby? Wish you had more time to play, or even to watch your favourite players in action? It’s time to book your tickets for the Seven (7s) Rugby Festival at Bournemouth, UK. The Bournemouth Rugby tour brings together the best performing teams from the nation in a grand finale that surpasses any other Rugby Sevens event in the region.

Rugby Sevens is a growing phenomenon, and what began in early 1900s as a localized adaptation of the popular Rugby format, is now becoming one of the most acceptable ways to play this exciting game. In Rugby sevens speed is the key because everything is running against the clock. That’s why the Bournemouth Rugby tour has attracted so much attention in UK. Rugby fans looking for a thrilling time attended the Seven (7s) Rugby festival at Bournemouth and had such a fun time that they told everybody about the Bournemouth Rugby Tour.

The festival is held in May when the weather is suitable for a good, energetic game of Rugby. The teams who’ve performed well through the year meet to discover who will be the ultimate champion. Unlike a regular Rugby game, only seven players from the each time are allowed on the field and the game lasts from 7 to 10 minutes. This makes the Bournemouth Rugby tour an event chock-filled with quick delights. With one game happening after the other, you’ll never get a chance to settle down in the Seven (7s) Rugby festival.

The best thing about a Sevens tournament is that it doesn’t last very long. The Bournemouth Rugby Tour starts on a Friday and is done by Sunday. A tournament of regular Rugby matches would not end in a week. If you can’t make that kind of investment in Rugby anymore, it’s better to attend the Sevens (7s) Rugby Festival instead and have the same kind of Rugby fun in a lot less time.

The details of the Bournemouth Rugby tour are available on the Internet, and you can keep a tab on the teams that will be participating. Even the tickets to the Seven (7s) Rugby festival are available online and you can book them easily.

Another good thing about the Bournemouth Rugby Tour is that it will be alongside a Netball tournament and a music festival. This means that there’s ample opportunity for everyone in the family. If you are a Rugby fan, and your wife and children are not, you can still bring them along to participate in the music and Netball events while you take part in the Seven (7s) Rugby festival. This way everyone can have a great shared vacation.

Many Rugby fans believe that Sevens will be the dominating Rugby format in the years to come due to its instant results, and extra energy and that Seven (7s) Rugby festival will be held in more and more places. Others are afraid this will dilute the game of Rugby, the proponents say that it will contribute to keeping Rugby alive and healthy in the hearts of fans who are too busy with the pressures of job and life.

So if you’re one of these Rugby fans who wants to connect with the game, participate in the Bournemouth Rugby Tour for a complete weekend of nothing but pure Rugby.

I am 13 and have recently broke my collarbone playing rugby. I am in the last week of a sling but when I return what kind of strapping should I wear when I go back to rugby?

A butterfly sling and barbarian shoulder pads. It would also be really helpful if you could get a sports therapist or the like to tape you up.
