I’m asking this question because I’m interested in playing club rugby but I am short sighted which requires me to wear glasses.

Would it possible to get a special exemption from the proper club rugby administrators? I originally asked the optometrist for contact lenses but I was told that glasses would be more suitable.

This is a serious question. If I can’t wear any prescription glasses then I’ll have tell the club about my eye sight and hope that I’d still be able to join.

You might have to get contact lenses or something champ because there is absolutely no way that they would let you wear glasses.

p.s. how is he a nerd when he wants to play rugby, the most unnerdy sport of all, how the hell does glasses make you nerdy.clowns

no … it’s against the laws of Rugby as it’s a danger to yourself and others.

The IRB does not allow any hard materials to be worn on the field

    Law 4. Players’ Dress:

    (9) No form of eye glasses is permitted.

No, you cannot wear glasses on a rugby field. If you have contact lenses, these are not a problem. Even International players wear contact lenses.

Apply alot of bandage and tape below and above the glasses then it’ll just look like you’ve taped yourself up for the game. hahaa

No glasses. In practice you will replace it after every match. Contacts are being used in rugby.

A team mate in high school was bloody near blind, but played without glasses or contacts.

If you play in the forwards it’s not as much of a problem. You can effectively lift in the line outs, push in the scrums and clear out the breakdowns.

No, you wont get an exemption.

The rules are very specific about what you can and cannot wear. As others have stated its a safety issue for both you and other players.

Your best bet is to go for contacts mate, or simply play without. Ive played with plenty of short sighted guys who had no issues playing without contacts or glasses.

Good luck with your rugby career.

im guessing your taking the piss here mate? do u really think that you’d be able to wear glasses? I dont know what kind of rugby your playing but theres no way you’d want to wear glasses even if you were allowed. they’d be broken the by the end of the first ruck.

    You cant park there.

    Your off your head.
