About Sports Rugby
Rugby has been a part of my life since I could first walk. My father would take me down to Hagley Park in the centre of Christchurch to watch my brother playing games for the Sydenham rugby club.
Rugby games were regularly watched in our household and my Dad was one huge Canterbury supporter. The Canterbury supporters are well known for being ‘one eyed’. Dad said ‘we aren’t one eyed’, one eye is red and one eye is black. Avid rugby supporters from this region will be well aware that the Canterbury rugby team play in red and black jerseys!
At school I even put my name forward to play in the girl’s rugby team. So as you can see rugby has always been a part of my life. When I moved up to Auckland for a couple of years behind my desk I had a newspaper clipping of Robbie Deans. In those days he played full back for the Canterbury rugby team. Robbie is currently coach for the Australian Rugby Team, the Wallabies.
Dad would get very emotional about rugby games and in the last years of his life he had to make sure he knew the score before the end of the All Blacks or Canterbury games in case his heart reacted with the excitement.
This site is dedicated to my Dad, David TJF Dobbie.
